I'm so excited on this campaign. Let's use this thread to talk and discuss how the candidates are doing and the "Delegate Count", etc!! As of Feb. 17th, here's where all the candidates stand. Feel free to update and discuss this anytime. Josh and for anyone else, feel free to post what CNN and other sources are reporting/projecting too since they are slightly different sometimes. ;

This TUESDAY things are going to get interesting in Hawaii. Hillary is predicting a victory for herself there. But, "Hawaii" is where Barack grew up. So, do you have any predictions who will win that State? I kind of think it will be Obama....

Clinton, Obama families campaign for the islands' 29 delegates up for grabs ahead of Tuesday's caucus

Chelsea Clinton munched chili at a popular Hawaiian restaurant Saturday while urging hundreds of enthusiastic supporters to vote for her mother in the upcoming Democratic presidential caucus.

On the island of Maui, Maya Soetoro-Ng asked about 200 people gathered at a luncheon to vote for her half brother, Sen. Barack Obama.

Party caucuses for presidential candidates in Hawaii typically get little attention because of the state's small number of voters.

But this year's tight Democratic race has forced the candidates to pay particular attention to the islands' 29 delegates - including 20 selected by party rank-and-file.

Neither Hillary Rodham Clinton nor Honolulu-born Obama were able to fly to the islands to campaign in person ahead of Tuesday's caucus. But their relatives have been actively seeking votes here on their behalf.

More than 100 people waited outside Zippy's restaurant to greet the former first daughter.

Clinton, 27, politely posed for photos and signed autographs for more than a dozen people as she waded through the crowd. She then sampled the vegetarian chili and a side-order of vegetables.

"I don't think Obama has issues, he's just hype, hype, hype," said Karen Wong, a 62-year-old former registered nurse who joined the throng at Zippy's. "What is hope and change if you don't have any solutions, right?"

Clinton didn't give any speeches or talk to media during her whirlwind tour of Honolulu, which started at 7:30 a.m. at the Kapiolani Community College farmer's market.

She seemed seemed to be shadowed throughout the day by Obama supporters. At Zippy's, a van with a big white sheet scrawled with an Obama slogan was parked in front of the restaurant.

University of Hawaii political science major Scott Alonso, 21, and a friend held Obama signs and cheered loudly as the "Hawaii for Hillary Trolley" left the school's campus for a tour of area neighborhoods.

Alonso said he thought people from Hawaii supported Obama both because he's from here and because of his ideas.

"His ideas really speak to what Hawaii is about. You know - unity, a positive vision, being optimistic about the future," Alonso said. "Everyone's really tight-knit here, the ohana (family) spirit. So I think Barack understands that because he's from here."

Soetoro-Ng told the Obama crowd at Maui Tropical Plantation that she's not "taking anything for granted" for Tuesday's caucus and she hopes voters will turn out for her brother, the Maui News reported.

"I want to emphasize my brother loves these islands. He loves these islands with every fiber of his being," Soetoro-Ng said.

Do the numbers you've posted reflect only the committed delegates?

If so, what do you think the deal is with the so called "super-delegates"?

The Republicans seem substantially more opposed to Hillary than Obama, even though Obama is the more liberal candidate.
Should the Democrats consider that, when they nominate their candidate?

Has either of these candidates campaigned in Hawaii for this vote?

I believe Hillary is there now according to the story above ("Battle for Hawaii"). But, I'm not sure about Obama? I've had so much going on with the internet and my homelife, I haven't been able to keep up with the election this past week as much as normally.

I don't know for sure on this either. It's hard to understand it all. I hope one of the other members can explain more on this. But, I think they have more clout. But, not sure how much??

I do believe the numbers shown include the superdelegates who have supported a candidate in each of the states where primaries/caucuses have been held. In my understanding, the superdelegates (unlike pledged delegates) are not tied to a candidate, and can change their vote at the last minute if they wish.

At the time being, the superdelegates are favoring Hillary Clinton despite Barack Obama's lead. There is some fear that Obama could win the most pledged delegates (and popular vote) and that the superdelegates would tilt the balance in favor of Clinton.

I believe one of the reasons Obama is more popular with Republicans that Clinton is the horrific thought of a Bush or a Clinton residing in the WH for at least 22 yrs starting with Bush Sr. through the first ter of a HRC presidency. Why not have royal families and have a Kennedy after Hillary?

There is some of that, Toad. I think, also, that some people equate 'Hillary as President' with 'Bill Clinton being, behind the scenes, a President with no accountability at all.' I understand that concern. I think the US needs new blood and frankly she's not it. Sure, she'd be better than Bush, but anyone posting on this forum would be. I prefer Barack mainly because I think her outlook on foreign policy is about as bad as that of the Bush administration, and she's been an enabler for that white house for the past 7 years.

You cannot take the word of the National Journal. They like to hang the dreaded Liberal placard on the candidate the Democrats might nominate. Oddly enough according to the National Journal the most Liberal Democrat in 2004 was John Kerry.

Prop, you are correct those numbers include superdelegates. I personally would rather only the pledged delegates be posted. Because the superdelegates might change their minds. I just heard last night Hillary has lost 5 of her pledged superdelegates. Obama has had a gain of 9. One woman superdelegate initially pledged to John Edwards. When he dropped out she switched to Hillary Clinton. Just the last few days she has changed again to Barack Obama. To me that means that superdelegates should not be counted until they have to cast their vote.

Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.

I must have missed where anybody quoted or linked anything from the National Journal. So how in the world do you know the person heard it there?

Because I pay attention to current events, Mark. The National Journal is the publication that recently tagged Obama as the most Liberal Senator. Before coming after me why did you not just Google, "Most Liberal Senator?"

I would not vote for McCain - too much of a loose cannon. I also will not vote for Clinton for many reasons, but mainly for her stand concerning illegal aliens.

THat still doesn't answer how you believe the people on this board heard the information from the National Journal. Could be they've also heard it elsewhere even if they actually even read the National Journal. So maybe you shouldn't be telling us where we get our information when you don't know.

Burg you still haven't proven that anybody here heard anything from the National Journal. It's just your normal big assumptions that you seem to have always wanted to believe are factual. Just because you may have read it in the National Journal don't assume everybody else here does when they haven't quoted as such. Don't try to speak for us when you don't have a clue where we read anything.
